Being a 'northern' girl, I have an affinity for nubby sweaters, backwoods hiking(minus the the ticks thank you), the smell of wood smoke, icy hands warmed by mugs filled with hot cocoa, and I can not leave out my great love for the crisp, pine smell of a real Christmas tree.
For the past few years, a real Christmas tree has not been an option for me. The mold content is just too high for my body to endure it anymore. Now, I'm not going to get into 'tree politics' or the arguments of fake trees v.s. real...real v.s. fake . The plain truth of it is, I love my Christmas trees!
Last year, as a tribute to the good old days...the ones where my dad could take the dog sled out back (my, I do have some stories to tell) and chop down our very own Christmas tree, I made my family carry our freshly purchased white plastic tree deep into the Grapevine Texas woods! Then I had them drag it back out again. Oh YES, this family would have a northern experience one way or another. "Come on kids...just ignore the weird stares and chuckling, we're making memories here!"
What's the moral of the story here...well there isn't much of one. Except, where there's a will there's a way. No matter what you have, or more importantly what you don't have, whether you can eat and do whatever you please or have a long 'no can do' list like me, family memories and traditions can be made! Your kids don't need a Christmas filled with 'status quo...they just need you and the memories you make together.

Have to say - I LOVE IT! Thanks for a very poignant and anecdotal understanding about traditions, their importance in our lives, and that you don't have to rolling in $$$$$ to accomplish it! After all, it is SUPPOSED to be about having fun and making wonderful memories!
