Masala Coffee

Masala Coffee

2 cups  coconut milk, fresh nut milk or raw dairy milk
2 TBLS sugar
3/4 piece of ginger
2TBLS fresh ground coffee
5 cardamon seeds pounded (or 11/2tsp ground)
1 cinnamon stick
cocoa powder

Put the milk and sugar in a heavy pot, bring o the boil over low heat and keep at a low simmer.  Dry roast the ginger under a broiler for 1 min. on each side, then pound it a little to crush it and release the juices.  Add to the milk with the coffee, cardamon and cinnamon.  Cover and allow the flavourings to steep in the heat for 3-4min.

Strain or pour into a french press.  Serve
As with the Masala Chai Recipe you will find your own balance of spices.

  1. Yay! I am go glad to see someone else does this. Granted, I make mine slightly different, but I really love my coffee this way. When I posted it on Facebook, though, my friends didn't think it sounded very good. Oh well, they're missing out!

  2. I recently made this, but as a devout western black coffee drinker it is under appreciated by me. I added a bit of bourbon to the mix and drink it with iced black coffee. A perfect was to end my day.
